As 2024 comes to an end, it’s the perfect time to reflect on a year filled with collaboration, growth, and impactful research studies. GO-EUC’s mission to create and share knowledge in the end-user computing (EUC) space continues to inspire and drive our efforts. We’ve accomplished so much with our community, and we’re excited to carry this momentum into 2025.
The market of 2024
In 2024, the End-User Computing (EUC) space experienced significant transformations. The rapid rise of AI in the workspace is starting to reshape how we work and leverage technology, with advancements accelerating at an unprecedented pace—yet it feels like we’re only scratching the surface of what’s possible. Microsoft continued to position Windows 365 CloudPC as a flagship solution, a trend reflected in its growing market adoption. Meanwhile, the Cloud Software Group (Citrix) expanded its portfolio by including uberAgent, DeviceTrus, and Strong Networks, strengthening its monitoring and security capabilities. This year also marked a defining moment for Omnissa, the newly independent entity formerly known as VMware’s EUC division, as it began establishing its own identity in the market. These developments underscore the vibrancy of the EUC landscape, setting the stage for even more innovation in 2025.
A Year of Progress and Collaboration
Back to the context of GO-EUC, this year, there were two major objectives for the platform.
- Teamwork and dedication;
- Data standardization.
Time is always a limiting factor in community-driven projects. In 2024, GO-EUC focused on maintaining a steady momentum for content creation by organizing our efforts using GitHub projects. This approach significantly improved the planning of research activities, providing transparency on research timelines and delivery dates. This resulted in 11 research publications spread consistently throughout the year. While the original goal was to produce one research per month, the refined planning process has led to a predictable and steady output.
Automation has always been a key focus at GO-EUC, particularly in setting up lab environments. However, earlier efforts underestimated the importance of data standardization. This year, significant progress was made in refining data collection and analysis workflows. By leveraging open-source tools like InfluxDB, Telegraf, and Grafana, GO-EUC streamlined the process of gathering and interpreting datasets. These advancements allow for faster detection of outliers within individual test runs and improve the reliability of results. Comparing scenarios, once a tedious and manual task, can now be completed with a single click thanks to the new dashboards. While there is still room for improvement, these steps have laid a solid foundation for accelerating future research efforts.
The top 5 posts of this year
Let’s take a look at the most read research studies this year.
This highlights that both Azure Virtual Desktop, Windows 365 and the associated costs vs performance are highly relevant topics in the EUC space. However, it also shows that Windows Server remains frequently used, as reflected in the consistent interest from GO-EUC readers. Additionally, the DIY Latency Tester continues to be a popular tool among our audience, showcasing the community’s interest in hands-on performance testing.
A Leap Forward
As we reflect on the steady progress made this year, our focus for 2025 is to maintain this momentum. A key priority will be strengthening our team, fostering growth within the community, and attracting talented and active members. By doing so, we aim to continue delivering innovative and impactful research that drives advancements in the EUC market. Ensuring the scope of our content aligns with audience interests will be critical to sustaining engagement and maintaining relevance to our readers and supporters.
As a non-profit organization, GO-EUC fully depends on the support of sponsors to continue our mission of sharing new knowledge in the EUC space. As our ambitions grow, so does our need for funding to achieve our goals. That’s why we’re open to new sponsorship opportunities with organizations that share our vision for driving innovation and progress in the EUC.
